Immunohistochemical Study of Giant Cell Osteosarcoma in a Dog
Authors
Abstract:
Case Description and Clinical Findings- A seven-year-old male German shepherd dog was referred to Small Animal Clinic with severe lameness (non-weight-bearing) and considerable localized proximal right humerus swelling. Radiographic study revealed severe soft tissue swelling and pathologic fracture of proximal right humerus. Immediately, the right forelimb was removed surgically and once sample was sent to pathologic laboratory for staining and immunohistochemical studies. Seven antibodies were used for immunohistochemical study of sample removed. Treatment and Outcome- Dog tolerated operation and recovered in 12 hours after surgery with no post-operative complication. The sample removed was giant cell osteosarcoma in H and E staining study. This tumor was with low mitotic and metastatic activity in immunohistochemical study. Clinical Relevance- Immunohistochemical study showed that antibodies used for histologic study could determine origin of tumor and being metastatic character of tumor for predicting of survival time and how to manage (medical and surgical treatment) this type of bone neoplasia.

A four-year-old male Persian cat was referred with three weeks history of progressive lameness due to a rigid osseous mass with 3.50×2.50×2.00 cm in dimensions in his left arm. In the histopathological evaluation of bone biopsy, two distinct populations of cells including multinucleated giant cells and oval cells which embedded in a fibro-osseous stroma and surrounded by lamellar bone trabecula...
full textA Comparative Immunohistochemical Study of CD105 Expression in Peripheral and Central Giant Cell Granuloma
Introduction: Despite similar histopathological features, peripheral giant cell granuloma (PGCG) and central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) differ in their biological behavior. PGCG and CGCG are hemorrhagic/vascular lesions, clinically and microscopically. Angiogenesis is necessary for the growth and development of lesions and affects their clinical behavior. CD105 is a useful vascular marker for...

Canine lymphoma is the most common neoplasm of the hematopoietic system with the most frequently diagnosed malignancy. Also, dogs affected by T-cell lymphoma displayed a lower rate of complete chemotherapy response and have a high risk of death in the early stage of the disease. A 5-year-old male mixed dog was presented to the Small Animal Hospital, School of Veterinary Medicine, Shiraz Univers...
full textAggressive chondroblastic osteosarcoma in a dog: A case report
Canine osteosarcoma (OS) or osteogenic sarcoma is an aggressive tumor of the skeletal system, associated with a rapid progression and guarded prognosis. The osteosarcomas, mostly arise from the appendicular skeleton while axial OS (osteosarcoma of flat bones) are less reported in the majority of large breeds. This report describes complete para-clinical investigations of an aggressive chondrobl...

Abstract: Background and Aim: Giant cell Granulomas (central and peripheral) are two fairly common lesions of the oral cavity with uncertain etiology and pathogenesis. As well, the reason for their different biologic behavior is not well understood yet. This study aimed to review the immunohistochemical profile of giant cell granuloma and its correlation with pathogenesis and biologic behavior....
